Groundbreaking Held For The MC Hotel In Montclair, New Jersey

A northern New Jersey community is getting its first new full-service hotel since the last one closed in 1938. On Tuesday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for The MC hotel in Montclair. That’s in Essex County.

The MC is being developed by the Pinnacle Companies, in a joint venture with the Hampshire Companies and Circle Squared Alternative Investments. It will be part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection. Dyami Architecture has designed the building and dash design will handle the interiors. Both are based in New York City.

Located at the corner of busy Bloomfield Avenue and Orange Road, the 120,000-square-foot hotel will have 151 rooms and will be the first hotel of anything like its kind since the closing of the Hotel Montclair. There will be a covered entryway with valet parking, a lobby library, a gourmet farm-to-table restaurant, event space, 12,000 square feet of conference and meeting room space, and a fitness center. Topping it all off will be a rooftop bar with views of Manhattan and the Eagle Rock Reservation.

The hotel expects to collaborate with local groups such as Jazz House Kids, the Montclair Film Festival, and the Montclair Food & Wine Festival to hold events throughout the year.

Parking will be accommodated in a new six-story parking garage, but there will also be shuttle service to Montclair’s NJ Transit train stations.

“We’re delighted to break ground on this one-of-a-kind hotel that will create a new gateway to downtown Montclair,” said Brian M. Stolar, President and CEO of the Pinnacle Companies, in a statement. “The MC is the result of planning and coordination with Township leaders for over five years to create a new hospitality amenity for the public that will dramatically increase the economic vitality of the Township.”

Completion is expected in 2018.
